Join us for a presentation by ASHRAE Distinguished Lecturer Charles Gulledge III on Integrated Building Design followed by a discussion with a panel of project team members who have learned to successfully implement integrative design techniques in their respective fields.

Charles E. Gulledge III, PE, HBDP, LEED® AP, CSI, MAI is a member of the Handbook Committee, member of the Building Information Modeling and Interoperability Ad Hoc Committee, ASHRAE Liaison to the Construction Specifications Institute (CSI), past Chair of the Chapter Technology Transfer Committee, past Chair of Technical Committee 7.01: Integrated Building Design, past Chair of TRG4 – Sustainable Metrics, past member of the High-Performance Building Design Professional Certification Ad Hoc Committee, and a Distinguished Lecturer on the topics of MasterFormat 2004 and Integrated Building Design. Mr. Gulledge has received the Chapter Service Award, Regional Award of Merit, Distinguished Service Award, and Dan Mills Technical Award.

Gulledge PhotoIn his role as the liaison to CSI, Mr. Gulledge has been intimately involved in the overhaul of the MasterFormat 2004 (MF04) specification organization structure. He currently serves as a MasterFormat Accredited Instructor (MAI) for CSI. He has trained multiple classes of MAI instructors for CSI, conducted Webinars focused on Basic MF04 and MF04 for Engineers, participated as a seminar speaker at the ASHRAE 2005 Annual Meeting in Denver, co-presented ASHRAE Learning Institute Short Courses on MF04, and presented chapter programs for ASHRAE and CSI on the new MF04 impacts and Integrated Building Design. Mr. Gulledge was primary author for the CSI white paper, MasterFormat 2004 Edition - 2007 Implementation Assessment

Mr. Gulledge is a Senior Mechanical Engineer with the design/build firm of AC Corporation in Greensboro, NC. A licensed professional engineer, he received his B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from North Carolina State University. He has over 24 years experience in the HVAC industry.

Panel Members:
Gregory R. Collins, CSI, PASBO is Coordinator of Capital Projects for the School District of Lancaster in Lancaster, PA. Mr. Collins is currently managing a $200 million dollar multi-year construction program that will impact 16 elementary schools, four middle schools, two alternative schools and two administrative buildings. Additionally Mr. Collins is responsible for overseeing and coordinating yearly capital and large expense construction projects, prepares capital budgets, preventative maintenance plans, provides technical (software) safety and security support and assists in other facilities operations. Mr. Collins also serves as the District representative to the Lancaster Inter Municipal Committees Land Use Advisory Board.

Larry E. McCabe, PE, LEED AP is Senior Project Manager, Mechanical /Electrical Services for Alexander building Construction in Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, which is a Division of Butz Enterprise in Allentown. Larry has been with the firm for nine years and is responsible for both Pre-Construction and Construction Phase activities using the Construction Management approach to project delivery. He is also responsible for the guidance of the firm’s efforts in Sustainable Design and Construction. He is a Professional Engineer –Mechanical and registered in nine states and a member of ASHRAE. In addition to nine years of experience in Construction Management, Larry has practiced engineering design and project management for an additional twenty years and was the Chief Mechanical Engineer for STV Inc an national design firm for twelve of those years.

David Schraeder, AIA, NCARB, CEFPI, LEED AP is a Managing Partner, LEED Designer and Planner for SCHRADERGROUP Architecture located in Manayunk, PA, outside of Philadelphia. He has a Bachelor of Architecture and a Bachelor of Science, Architecture from Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Architecture from University of Pennsylvania. For the past eighteen years, Mr. Schrader’s professional experience has been and is focused on the design of facilities of public interest. His significant experience in the areas of programming and design has earned him, his teammates and his clients’ high acclaim. His design accolades, speaking engagements and publications in the field of design for facilities of public interest are numerous. Mr. Schrader carefully weaves the sociological needs and the sustainable goals of each specific client into their project design. His ability to create a vision with his clients has fostered significant success for all involved including the client, the design team and the public-at-large. “Partnership in design is the key to creating a better designed environment for every client.”

Brian Toevs, PE, CxA, LEED AP founder and president of BETA Engineers, PC, a 7group company. As a partner in the 7group co-authors of “The Integrative Building Design Guide to Green Building”, he is intimately familiar with integrated building design practices. His 20 years experience in building systems design has given him hands-on expertise in building subsystems ranging from fire protection, dust collection and sanitary sewer to process piping, ventilation and HVAC. He is a widely respected commissioning agent, serving that role for a wide range of facilities, including government office buildings, correctional facilities and schools, along with commercial office buildings, hospitals, industrial facilities and wastewater treatment facilities and is familiar with the advantages of early participation in design decisions form all members of the project team.

Presentation: Integrated Building Design
The quest of successfully providing a truly integrated building design (IBD) continues to challenge our industry and the built world. This program looks at these challenges, identifies barriers to success, and explores solutions to promote and achieve holistic IBD. Content covers the following topics:

• Project delivery techniques
• Design team structures
• Design discipline cross-links and coordination
• Hidden barriers
• How do we make IBD work?

Panel Discussion: “What’s on YOUR mind?”
Although the panel will be prepared to discuss various “hot topics”, the intention is to discuss your concerns and experiences. If you have a particular question or concern you would like the panel to address, please include your question in your registration.
