Dear Members,

I hope everyone had a happy holiday season. It is hard to believe how fast the time has passed and my tenure as Central PA ASHRAE President is half completed. I am sure with the schedule for 2014 the next six months will go just as fast.

I hope everyone enjoyed the PDS and product show in December. The product show was a huge success considering it was our first. I want to thank everyone for supporting the show as well as all the vendors that had displays.

Our next meeting will be held on Wednesday January 15th at Thermal Solutions in Lancaster, PA. We will be touring the Thermal Solutions Plant followed by a Lunch Program focusing on Condensing Boiler Heat Exchanger Technologies. I am sure it is going to be exciting and a great learning experience.

I also want to remind everyone of the ASHRAE 2014 Winter Conference be held January 18-22, 2014 in New York City. It is a great opportunity based on the location this year to get to this event.

Also, don’t forget to check our chapter website ( for additional event information and schedules. Thanks you for supporting the Central PA Chapter of ASHRAE.

Happy New Year! Hope to see you at our next event.

David Bender, President, Central PA ASHRAE

Central PA Future City Competition

For those unfamiliar with the event, this is a national competition held for 6th, 7th and 8th grade students who design a virtual city using SimCity software. Students are also required to write an essay, construct a model and present their city to an audience of judges. We are currently preparing for the 2014 Central Pennsylvania Future City competition. We are in need of more judges than in the past, as we are expecting more than 25 entries this year from local schools.

The Competition will be held on Saturday, January 25 at the PA State Museum in Harrisburg, and the topic is Tomorrow’s Transit: Design a Way to Move People in and Around Your city. Judging is expected to take place between 9 am and 1:00 pm. Similar to years past, the top 3 teams after preliminary judging will present in front of everyone in attendance, 3 judges will be selected to judge the finals beginning around 2:00 pm. Everything you need to judge will be provided to you in advance of the competition.
