In This Issue

Dear Members,

In April, Central PA ASHRAE will host two special events for our college students and young engineers. The first of these events will be on April 17th for our annual student night, where our chapter will host students from both Penn College of Technology and Penn State. During this meeting, our chapter has the pleasure of awarding both chapter and society level scholarships to engineers who will soon be joining our workforce. One especially exciting to be awarded that night is to Nicholas Rekstad, a Penn State student, who has earned a $10,000 ASHRAE Willis H. Carrier Scholarship! I encourage you to attend to show your support.

The second event will be on Tuesday, April 23rd when our chapter hosts our first ever Young Engineers in ASHRAE (YEA) event at Tröegs Brewery in Hershey, PA. I would like to extend a special thank you to our sponsors, H.C. Nye Company, H&H Sales Associates, and Johnson Controls for making this event possible. The primary goal of this event is to encourage mentoring and networking among our young engineers in ASHRAE members. While the event is geared towards our members 35 years and younger, I would like to encourage anyone who interested in mentoring to attend.

Can you remember you first mentor? Was it someone that your worked with, a professor in college, a family friend? How did they help you during the early years?

This month, I ask you to consider your mentor experience and challenge you to mentor someone in return. Whether it’s sharing your PE testing experiences, you first internship, what you learned in the industry over the years, or how you got started in the industry, your professional advice will be appreciated by our industry newcomers. With two student events this month, take advantage of this excellent opportunity to start a mentoring experience, if you haven’t already, with a young engineer in our field. It would also be a great time to reach out to the mentors in your life to say thank you.
