Region III Dinner at Winter Mtg

President's Message

Greetings ASHRAE Members,

Thanksgiving. To me, it is a time for spending time with family and giving thanks for the ways I have been blessed in the past year. To others, Thanksgiving might mean football or parades. In my family, we always gather together on Thanksgiving day at my grandparents’ farm with my relatives to enjoy lots of traditional Thanksgiving food. With the addition of great-grandchildren, there were 45 of us this year. After dinner, we went around the table and everyone says something they are thankful for. This year, I am especially thankful for a healthy (and expanding) family.

As chapter President, I am thankful for all of the volunteers within our chapter. In addition to the officers and board of governors, many people help by being a part of committees, finding speakers, giving donations to ASHRAE Research or spreading the word about ASHRAE.

In the days of the first Thanksgiving feast, there was no refrigeration and they ate what they could hunt or harvest at the time. These days, we could have a Thanksgiving feast in June and still be able to eat all of the same foods. This is partly the result of globalized markets and partly the result of refrigerated food storage. Come join us on December 8 at Four Seasons Produce to learn about how produce is stored and distributed. We will also have a tour of their facility.

Mark M. Graybill, PE
