President's Message

Greetings ASHRAE Members:

I first would like to thank everyone who was able to join us at our first program meeting of the year at the Appalachian Brewing Company. We had a great turn out and it was nice to see so many new and familiar faces. I would also like to thank Andrew Persily, Ph.D. for his presentations on ASHRAE’s Standard 62.1 rate calculations and overview of new IAQ Design Guide. I hope everyone took something from these programs and I will inform you all when the new IAQ Design Guide is available online.

Our next meeting should prove to be very interesting especially to those of us who are mechanically minded. We will be meeting at PoolPak in York for a factory tour. This is a great opportunity to see what is involved on the production side of the equipment we specify and how this type of equipment is assembled. It also will hopefully trigger some questions you may have never thought of before. After the tour we will head down the road for dinner and a presentation on natatorium design. This program should prove valuable to all who size and specify equipment for pool rooms.

I look forward to seeing you at the next meeting and as a reminder if you received a voucher from the last meeting for the 50/50 drawing please bring them to this meeting for a chance to win the drawing.

If You Can't Stand the Heat ... Manage the Humidity: ASHRAE Heads to Florida for 2010 Winter Conference
September 16, 2009
ATLANTA— “It’s not the heat, it’s the humidity,” is often used to explain the less-than-comfortable temperatures in Florida. With that in mind, there seems to be no better place to discuss this winter’s conference theme: Building Sustainability from the Inside Out. Whenever the temperatures outside are too hot or humid to handle, ASHRAE ensures that indoor environments are comfortable and, most important, sustainable.
